It's about the people.

October 21, 2015  /  Katie Slagel

I will end this series of posts about our trip to Chiapas with a non-coffee related post. This post is more about the people we met than the coffee they produce.

We met some pretty incredible people on our travels down south. People who have little but live life to the full. Hardworking people. Kind people. People who count their blessings and therefore become blessings themselves. Beautiful people.

We've been back home for a month now and I miss these faces. Worn faces from years and years of hard work. Hard work producing the coffee you might be enjoying this very minute as you're reading this.

We were so excited to meet the families who grow our coffee & do the dirty work for us and, shockingly, they were excited to meet us! They know when we buy their coffee, they get to feed their families. They know when we sell more coffee, we buy more coffee. They know the importance of this work, and I promised them I would try my very best to share their stories with people who would like to hear. I promised to come back home and sell more coffee to help put their kids through school. I promised to pray that The Lord would bless the earth in which they plant the coffee seed, that he would send rain when they needed rain & send sunshine when they needed sunshine. Their testimony of God's faithfulness as the true producer of coffee is inspiring. I hope I can give God the same glory as these beautiful people do in word & action every day.

So, in closing, I want to say MUCHAS GRACIAS to everyone in Salvador Urbina for welcoming us with open arms. Thank you all for your beautiful souls. Thank you all for producing coffee. I know it's hard work & sometimes it feels like there's not much pay off...but it's universally a community builder. I've seen it bring together your community. I've seen it bring my community closer. I've seen it happen in hundreds of places all over the world. Your work is important. Keep on keeping on. We'll continue doing everything we can on our end to cheer you on.

Gracias also to the awesome people at Café Justo in Agua Prieta who put together this trip & invited Denver & I along! It was such a great experience.

If you'd like to support the families in Salvador Urbina, please consider purchasing coffee from our online shop. All of the coffee we roast here in Magdalena is 100% organic & (I can testify from first-hand experience) has been handled with love from the time it was was planted until it's handed off the the mail-carrier. By purchasing our coffee, you're supporting two businesses-as-missions with the purpose of enriching lives & spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. By purchasing our coffee, you're helping families purchase school supplies & new shoes. In short, you're blessing many many people with each purchase, and our hope is that you feel blessed with each purchase too.
